The Ultimate Fighting Championship will present UFC 299: O’Malley vs. Vera 2, on March 9, 2024, at the Kaseya Centre in Miami, Florida, in the United States. UFC will be making its third trip to Miami with this event, and its first since UFC 287 in April 2023.

The main event will feature a fight for the UFC Bantamweight Championship between current champion Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera. Soon after, Poirier, however, withdrew his statement and called it a misunderstanding.

UFC 299: O’Malley vs Vera II Preview

O’Malley (17-1-1) is arguably the UFC’s most divisive current champion; he has faced criticism for his risk-averse approach as well as for facing a lengthy list of weak opponents before moving on to more difficult opponents.

In his first fight against a ranked opponent, he was defeated by Vera; in his second bout, an eye poke from O’Malley caused a no-contest against the tough veteran Pedro Munhoz. Inexplicably, he was matched up with the top-ranked former champion Petr Yan for his subsequent bout, which he won via split decision at UFC 280 in October 2022.

Despite this, the 29-year-old native of Montana, who is well-known for having a large social media following, made the most of his next title match versus Sterling by blocking a takedown attempt by Sterling with an overhand right and finishing with a barrage of punches.

Though few MMA analysts predicted it would take place in a title bout, a rematch with the 31-year-old Vera was long anticipated.

Vera (23-8-1) is a seasoned 10-year UFC fighter renowned for his unrelenting fighting style and dark nature inside the cage. The Ecuadorian fighter’s record includes knockout victories over former champions Dominick Cruz and Frankie Edgar. He has fought against several elite opponents in noteworthy fights.

After defeating O’Malley, Vera was defeated by former champion Jose Aldo in a five-round decision; however, he has since gone on a winning streak of five out of six and is now a contender for the belt.
